A Trip to the SPCA

Today, we went to the SPCA to sign our bunny Odin up for a neuter. Keeping Houdini and Odin separated doesn’t make anyone happy but at the same time, we don’t want either rabbit to get hurt in a fight either. Houdini already has a cut on his head, right above his eye and Odin suffered some injuries as well. This means, it’s really time to neuter Odin, level the playing field and then they can decide who’s the bunny king in our house.

After we signed up (a neuter is $45 and a spay $55), we couldn’t help but walk by the rabbits that are up for adoption. The SPCA in Tampa has quite a few really cute bunnies that are looking for a new home but one, “Billy” (, struck a special chord with us. Not only is he a Lionhead, the kind we had been looking to get before Odin entered our lives, he’s also a very sweet bunny, who likes to sit in my lap and be petted. Neither Houdini nor Odin are especially keen on that. When Kurtis tried to pick him up to put him back into his cage, “Billy” wasn’t pleased at all and protested in best bunny fashion. He did let me put him back, however. It was difficult to leave him at the SPCA today, but with two unhappy bunnies in the house, we need to make sure we establish some peace before trying to entertain the possibility of a third rabbit.

While we’re hoping “Billy” finds a loving home soon (and won’t be returned like he was before), we’re also still hoping he can join our two somewhere in the back of our heads.

If you know someone who would like a pet rabbit, let them visit the SPCA Tampa Bay website, the bunnies there are in need of a loving home and all are spayed or neutered, which eliminates the possibility of up to 1,300 baby bunnies a year if a female rabbit is paired with a male rabbit in a new home.
